China looming

2 weeks to go.

Dave & I will soon embark on a journey to Hong Kong and China.  We’re taking Dave’s dad Sam along with us to share what is sure to be an amazing adventure.

We’ll make our way around Hong Kong for a few days before joining Intrepid Travel’s Grand China tour for 21 days around mainland China, then a few days on our own in Beijing at the end of the tour. We’ve never traveled on an organised tour before and we decided on Intrepid partly because they take no more than 12 people on a tour, and their itinerary ticked all the boxes for us. Plus we really liked our Intrepid consultant Jess.

An added highlight will be celebrating Sam’s 83rd birthday on our 2nd day in Hong Kong. Will have to look out for a Hong Kong style birthday cake.

Planning for the trip has been really exciting. We’ve been researching and investigating some of the places we’ll visit such as the Yangtze River and the 3 Gorges Dam, Xian to see the Terracotta Warriors and the Great Wall just outside Beijing.

Our vaccinations are all up to date and we have a list of drugs to take with us, on the advice of The Travel Doctor. That was a worthwhile visit, so now we feel confident to handle an assortment of maladies that may come our way.

I’ve been trawling lots of China travel blogs to try to prepare for the culture shock of arriving in a country of over 1.3 billion people.

So now thinking about packing…
